SriLankan Airlines aircraft, 4R-ABE, is now with Mihin Lanka. Since the wet-leased Boeing 737-800 aircraft’s lease period ended ( with no good use of this brand new aircraft taken, thanks to delays in obtaining approval by management ), the government had asked SriLankan ( UL ) to allocate an aircraft to Mihin ( MJ ).
4R-ABE ( pictured ) is an Airbus A320-231 example ( MSN 169 ) first flew in 1991 .
This should come as no suprising news since SriLankan has cut half of its route network and can successfully complete its current short-haul network with two A320s.
SriLankan currently has four A320s – ABD, ABF, ABG and ABH .
Rumours are there that SriLankan is looking at selling one of their widebody aircraft . It is not sure whether this is true, but is not suprising if true, since UL has already cut its long-haul route network frequencies to an all time low of recent times and might also need this injection of money because they are not in a much strong financial position.
Asia’s first ever Airbus A340-300, 4R-ADA (MSN032), originally delivered to Air Lanka, is now not much used on revenue ops and was recently used for the President’s tour to Libya .
